At the Ampain Refugee Camp, transformation often begins with a single opportunity and a willingness to learn.

For Tatola Hiba, a refugee from Chad, that opportunity came through our Climate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. What started as a learning experience quickly became a turning point in how she sees challenges, opportunities, and her own potential.

When Tatola joined the training, she came with many questions. Like many young people facing uncertain circumstances, she wanted to understand how she could create a better future for herself and her community. She was curious, eager to learn, and determined to make the most of the opportunity.

Throughout the training, participants explored the realities of climate change and its impact on communities, livelihoods, and the environment. They learned how climate challenges are affecting the world around us and, more importantly, how innovation can be used to develop practical solutions.

For Tatola, one lesson stood out above all others: the Business Model Canvas (BMC).

The BMC introduced her to a new way of thinking about business and entrepreneurship. For the first time, she could clearly see how a simple idea could be structured, tested, and transformed into a viable business. She discovered that entrepreneurship is not reserved for people with large amounts of capital or access to extensive resources. Instead, it begins with identifying a problem, understanding customers, and creating value.

What resonated most with her was the realization that even with limited resources, it is possible to build something meaningful and profitable. The training helped her understand that successful businesses are not built only on what people have, but on how creatively they use what is available to them.

By the end of the program, Tatola was no longer focused on the barriers in front of her. She was focused on the opportunities ahead.

Her story is a powerful reminder that talent, creativity, and ambition exist everywhere. What is often missing is access to knowledge, mentorship, and the right tools. When those elements come together, people begin to see possibilities where they once saw limitations.

At Duapa Werkspace, we believe that innovation and entrepreneurship have the power to transform lives and communities. Through initiatives like the Climate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, we are committed to equipping young people with the skills, mindset, and confidence they need to create sustainable solutions and economic opportunities.

Tatola’s journey is proof that where you come from does not determine where you can go.

When people are given the knowledge, support, and tools to succeed, they often exceed expectations—not just for themselves, but for everyone around them.

And this is only the beginning. 💚
