SNV Networking session - Balancing business and family life Featured

33 SMEs and entrepreneurs gather to discuss how entrepreneurs can balance their personal and professional lives while achieving business growth and development.

Today’s society has seen an increase in the number of private-owned businesses and a sharp incline in the number of entrepreneurs. We can say that entrepreneurship has reached a golden age. Everyone is trying to be their own boss in one way or the other. how entrepreneurs can balance their personal and professional lives while achieving business growth and development.

Duapa Werkspace, a skills development and entrepreneurship hub located in West Anaji, Takoradi in partnership with SNV Ghana organizes a series of networking sessions to engage entrepreneurs and SMEs as well as stakeholders to discuss issues that border on business and life.

The May edition of the Networking Session took place on Friday the 20th of May 2022, at the premises of Duapa Werkspace under the theme “Balancing work and family life.” About 33 participants attended the event with 25 being female and 8 being male. The event featured a panel of entrepreneurs and a counsellor. The panellists were Aku Shika Diabah of Yesli Ice, Francis Atuahene of Atuahene Group of companies, and Benedicta Biney a career counsellor. In his submission, Mr Atuahene shared his entrepreneurial journey with participants, his struggles, losing his father, and overcoming obstacles to get to be an owner of several businesses. He advised participants that no employment may be permanent, as such they should try as much as possible to leverage the opportunities of the employment to learn and improve skills and build a network.

Madam Aku Shika Diabah also shared her experience with the participants. She stressed involving the family in one’s entrepreneurial pursuit to make it easy for them to understand and support you. She said you can assign roles to family members so that they take active responsibility in the business. Madam Benedicta Biney also encouraged participants to seek guidance or counselling when it comes to making major life choices such as stepping into entrepreneurship. She said counsellors can better advise on the steps one can take to be better positioned for a successful entrepreneurial journey.

There were questions from the participants as well. Participants were so pleased with the discussions that they hoped it wouldn’t end. Most of them were thankful that such an event was organized, they testified that the session had informed them a lot and were looking forward to the next session.
The next Networking session would come off in the month of August, stay tuned for the date.
